General
The 'General' tab allows users to configure if they want to see the v3 Mode warning message each time a v3 project is opened. The program and database updates check frequency is also specified as well as the path to the active database file. The database file can be on a local drive or a network drive.
When a network database file is selected, the user is prompted to copy it locally. The program always works with a local database file for three reasons. First, it offers better performance. Second, if the user is disconnected from the network, the program can still use the most recent local working copy. Third, if a user opens a project with product data that is not in the database, the project product data can be stored in the local working database. This 'uncontrolled' product data is not stored in the network database file, which is shared by multiple users. Any changes to the network database file require that the database administrator copy it locally to his computer, then add and/or modify the product data as needed, and then copy it back to the network drive for others to use. Every time the program starts, the program checks if the network database file has changed. If it has changed, the user is prompted to copy it locally.
The Update Database button allows you to copy the local database file as the active database.
The Save user settings for all users checkbox is only visible when the IT Administrator is logged in and the SERVOsoft TS (Terminal Server) feature is enabled. This allows IT admins to manage the user configuration for all users. When checked, settings such as program and database updates, proxy server, and image and text scale factors are applied for all users that login to the TS session.
