Incline Angle and Direction

The incline angle applies to linear motion mechanisms such as a Conveyor, Ball Screw, Rack & Pinion, etc.

The mechanism incline angle, q, defines whether the axis is horizontal, vertical, or somewhere in between. A horizontal axis is defined when q = 0o, and a vertical axis is defined when q = 90o. In special cases such as the Slider Crank mechanism, the incline angle can be defined between 0 and +/-180o.

When a vertical axis is specified, moving Up is positive velocity and moving Down is negative velocity.

Horizontal Axis, incline angle q = 0o   Vertical Axis, incline angle q = 90o
