Insert Smoothing Segments

The concept of Linear Splines allows thinking only in base points (x,y) instead of speeds and accelerations when moving an axis from position to position. These base points describe positions at specific times respectively. At the base points, the movement is smoothed using automatically calculated polynomials. The method then results in smoothed Linear Splines, which make it easy to implement process-related synchronous and asynchronous movements.

The advantage of Linear Splines is that the axis moves as long as possible with low constant speed, which allows minimizing energy consumption, because energy consumption is usually proportional to the speed squared.

At the base points, when the axis changes direction, the automatically calculated smoothed polynomials assure that the forces or torques are limited, because forces or torques are proportional to the acceleration as a rule. Additionally, an acceleration optimized polynomial is available which limits the acceleration even more.

SERVOsoft® is therefore capable of optimizing energy consumption as well as wear and tear as the complete mechatronic model from the load to the power supply.

Insert Smoothing Segments is part of the Optimizer PRO option.

The 'Optimizer PRO' is an option that is only available with the SERVOsoft PRO version, which includes the CAM Profiles feature, essential to take full advantage of the Optimizer.

Step 1: Specify Base Points (x,y)
Step 2: Specify Smoothing Segments to create a Linear Spline
Step 3: Click OK to Update the Sequence with the Linear Spline
